Why Reading with Mrs. Adams

Why would a retired kindergarten teacher create a Youtube channel and read stories and poems to children? And why create a website with follow-up activities? I love children and have a passion to help them become proficient readers and writers.

God created human beings with vast potential! I love children and have an energy to help them become adequate readers and writers so they can achieve all they desire in a world that will challenge them as they attempt to reach their God-given potential.

I created my Youtube channel because reading stories and poems to children supports all five essential components of effective reading instruction. Reading aloud introduces children to sounds of letters, words and rhymes; it creates the link between sounds and letters and combinations of letters; it models what reading is and the use of proper phrasing and expression; it introduces new words and their meanings; and it helps children develop the ability to understand what is being read to them.

This website is intended to offer resources to parents to inform and help them to better assist their children to read and write proficiently. There are extended activities, games, and worksheets related to the current video which are aligned to each of the five components of effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. With each new video, there will be a new set of extended activities to complement the stories and poems. I am endeavoring to create extended activities for past videos as quickly as possible. Check the website weekly for new materials. You will be able to access the activity pages by name of the video.

For your convenience, I am developing an app that contains all the videos I have produced thus far. I realize that many parents would prefer to access an app rather than Youtube to ensure safety and ease of use for their children. The app will be updated weekly as well.
